Benchmark- Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper SAMPLE
Nurses play significant roles in providing care for people with different illness and disabled individuals to ensure that they maintain or attain optimal health. However, in order to achieve this role, nurses must perform their duties within a specific scope of practice (David et al., 2015). Apparently, the scope of
practice for these healthcare givers depends on the qualification, experience as well as membership to professional nursing organizations (Catallo, Spalding & Haghiri-Vijeh, 2014). Specifically, the role of the professional bodies in supporting specialty care among nurses has been of utmost importance in positively influencing the health system which in turn optimizes quality outcomes to patients. The role of the professional nursing organization in developing the scope of practice is a concept worth exploring considering that they determine the roles of nurses in current and future practice.
As such, the present study delves into the analysis of the role of nursing informatics organization for the scope of practice of an advanced registered nurse. The discussion will explore three professional organizations that support the scope of nursing informatics practice followed by an evaluation of evolving issues surrounding the scope.

Scope of Future Role as an Advanced Registered Nurse
Nursing is one of the most dynamic and evolving professional fields with a host of limitless opportunities.
Benchmark – Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper
The career prospects in nursing clearly define the scope of practice since a practitioner can specialize in various lines of care. According to Liu, Lee and Mills (2015), nursing informatics (NI) is one of the emerging scopes that aims to optimize care for patients. NI is a specialty of nursing practice that incorporates the application of computer software as a documentation tool to improve the quality of care for patients. The scope is considered as a union that combines nursing practice with technology as well as data assimilation (McCormick & Saba, 2015). Nursing informatics comprises of countless tools, which include simple computers to more advanced electronic medical record systems that are diligently organized to deliver health information about patient care.
Moreover, nursing informatics is vital in the future role of advanced registered nursing practice. This is guided by the argument that the scope is one of the strongest as well as the most far-reaching and current practices of care. Furthermore, NI involves the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing care to optimize the delivery of health services to patients (Sewell, 2018). The nursing informatics software platform provides a framework for the implementation of documentation in the clinical systems and delivery of healthcare models. Besides, an advanced registered nurse specializing in informatics develops a deeper understanding of the design and the organizational framework of the healthcare industry particularly by focusing on the contemporary challenges facing the sector.
However, for one to specialize in the scope of nursing informatics, a care provider must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) although a master’s degree in the same is preferred. Nonetheless, a nurse in this specialty must have a Nursing Informatics Certificate for one to be allowed to implement clinical information systems in a health facility. In addition, nurses specializing in NI need to hold academic credentials on Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) as well as Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) (Gaber, 2016). Further, a nurse must exhibit excellent computer skills and knowledge computer software programs particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint together with Microsoft Excel.
Moreover, a nurse is required to have knowledge of how the clinical workflow operates in a care facility from inpatient to outpatient care settings (Sewell, 2018). Deeper knowledge about the Federally Qualified Healthcare standards (JCAHO) is also a prerequisite before a nurse opts for the specialty of nursing informatics. Nurses interested in the informatics specialty also need to be credentialed by the American Nurse Credentialing Center for them to acquire scope of standards of practice (Liu, Lee & Mills, 2015). However, a nurse specializing in informatics should develop a deeper understanding of the requirements of Health Insurance Portability and Accountable Act (HIPAA) to gain insights on the safety regulations to safeguard medical information.
Three Professional Nursing Organizations Influencing Advanced Registered Nursing
Professional organizations, as well as associations, are vital in the provision of nursing care to patients. With regard to a nursing specialty in informatics, the scope of standard practice is influenced by three different nursing organizations (Schwirian, 2013). The first and the most important organization is the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA), which aims to integrate nursing science and computer science to manage data of patients (Catallo, Spalding & Haghiri-Vijeh, 2014). The organization enhances professional development for the nursing practitioners in the field of informatics and optimize information management to enhance safety for patients. The second vital organization in informatics is the American Nurses Association (ANA). The association released the Nursing Informatics Scope and Standards to guide decisions on practice for nurses in the field of informatics (Gaber, 2016). ANA is, therefore, an organization that provides practice standards that informs nurses on the recommended scope of practice on issues related to informatics. Finally, the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is an important organization that links biomedical practices with health informatics to optimize patient care.
Of the three organizations, I am likely to join the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA). The latter is in line with my future practice as an advanced registered nurse since it incorporates health information with research and practice (Catallo, Spalding & Haghiri-Vijeh, 2014). As such, membership with the organization will enable me to stay connected with the emerging practices of clinical environment through understanding the interactions in the field of technology. The mission of ANIA inclines to education and research, which are consistent with my future roles as an advanced nurse practitioner in the scope of informatics (Liu, Lee & Mills, 2015). In my transition in the field of informatics nursing, ANIA will improve my interaction with patients and this will offer a platform for developing clinical judgment based on the data obtained from the clients. Besides, I have a conviction that ANIA will develop my practice skills on how to ensure accuracy in handling patient data to minimize the instances of medication errors associated with wrong data entries.

Scope of Future Role as an Advanced Registered Nurses SAMPLE 2
Nurses continue to adopt greater responsibilities as leaders and managers in different healthcare settings due to current changes in legislations at state and federal levels. As the role of the nurse transforms from a physician’s assistant to an integral member of the life-saving team, the nurse leader role emerges. The scope of a nurse leader is wide but at the core of this responsibility is to guide nurses and ensure that they are complying to high standards of quality care and patient safety. In its report, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) noted the importance of nurses leading change and advancing health as essential ways of transforming the nursing profession and delivering quality and safe care to patients in diverse practice settings (Ducharme et al., 2017). The IOM report key message states that nurses should be full partners with physicians and other health professionals in redesigning healthcare in the country. As an advanced registered nurse, my future role is to be a nurse leader in clinical practice championing effective care and increased partnership between nurse practitioners, physicians and other health care professionals.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that close to 500,000 registered nurses would be retiring and leading to a demand for about 1.1 million new nurses to meet the new demand and replace retirees most of them in managerial and leadership positions (Dyess et al., 2017). The implication is that the scope of nurse leader’s role would have expanded responsibilities and the need to offer supervisory services to staff in a hospital or clinical setting. Nurse leaders are responsible for ensuring safe delivery of care and are must be intimately familiar with the safety standards and protocols of the medical profession and their healthcare practice. Nurse leaders are expected to supervise members of the nursing team to ensure that all patients get safe care.
Successful nurse leaders maintain and use evidence-based practices in their nursing team and settings. The implication is that as a nurse leader, one must be up to date and well conversant with different medical practices and protocols. Nurse leaders should be aware of different professional publications, be members of professional associations and use health notices to enhance care delivery (Ducharme et al., 2017). The care decisions and choices of nurse leaders should be informed by evidence-based research studies and public health concerns of the population and patients visiting their practice environment. Nurse leaders are responsible for monitoring patient care to ascertain that members of their teams work toward optimum quality standards. Nurse leaders should consider patient concerns seriously and address them in the most effective way. As leaders, they should promote high quality care standards for each patient and their families. Successful nurse leaders focus on attainment of high quality experiences for both patients and nurses in their care setting.
Nurse leaders are members of professional organizations like the American Nurses Association and must adhere to state regulatory bodies’ requirements. For instance, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a national entity which offer nurses with regulatory requirements at the federal level. The organization is responsible for development of state licensure examinations that adhere to current nursing practice. NCSBN provides state boards of nursing with current nursing practice programs to enhance collaborative approaches to different nursing issues and nurse leaders incorporate such new evidence into care practice among their nursing teams. The organization also provides boards with evidence-based practice content to guide nurse leaders in making decisions on regulatory issues that may impact their practice.
Nurse leaders should also understand the role of regulatory bodies like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is responsible for overseeing healthcare programs like the meaning application of electronic health records and value-based care and reimbursement protocols (CMS, n.d). The CMS has certain guidelines that nurse leaders should adhere to in order to get reimbursement. The implication is that as a nurse leader, one must understand how CMS works to effectively guide their teams and play their leadership roles.
Re: Topic 8 DQ 1
The three organizations of interest are the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the American Society of Perianesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). The NSNA dedicates the organization to the development of future nurses as they follow their educational path towards a career in nursing (National Student Nurses’ Association [NSNA], 2021). Additionally, the association provides scholarships to undergraduate students to complete their degrees. NSNA members can join their university and state nursing organizations and participate in leadership activities. The NSNA has biannual meetings that provide information relevant to current nursing, health care, and legislative issues (NSNA, 2021). The AACN represents nurses dedicated to academia (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2021).
It establishes and implements educational standards for nursing students at any level of nursing education. The AACN guides nurses toward improving health care. Nurses are supported by the AACN in their education, research, and practice. The membership comprises nursing schools, faculty, and students (AACN, 2021). ASPAN is the organization that represents perianesthesia nursing. The group sets the standards of care and clinical guidelines for the care of patients in the preoperative and postoperative settings (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses [ASPAN], 2021). The society provides membership that includes seminars, webinars, reviews for certification, and a journal dedicated to perianesthesia care. New and current information is provided along with legislation that impacts the clinical areas of care. The organization encourages certification and offers reviews at various locations in the country (ASPAN, 2021). All three organizations have stated in some form that they are committed to nursing education and improving the care of each patient. This is my goal in furthering my education. I hope that my clinical knowledge will serve each patient well. I would also like to teach in order to produce nurses dedicated to professional improvement that serves our patients and communities.
