Three professional nursing organizations that interest me as they relate to my personal field of nursing are the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). “Professional associations offer members opportunities to develop new skills, network, and participate in relevant continuing education programs.
Organizations can be a terrific vehicle for recruiting new employees or finding a new professional position. Opportunities to develop relationships with people who otherwise would have been inaccessible or unknown are also highly valued aspects of association membership (DeNisco, 2019).” The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) mission and purpose is to advance excellence in emergency nursing.
There is no membership requirement, you can be an RN Nationally, internationally, or you can join as a student or an associate member (ena.org, n.d.). As an ED and Trauma Nurse and Nurse educator I thoroughly enjoy the publications they put out with ED EBP, the CEUs they offer, the conferences and the discounts they offer when taking a national certification examination.
The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) mission “is to ensure optimal trauma care to all people locally, regionally, nationally and globally through initiatives focused on trauma nurses related to prevention, education and collaboration with other healthcare disciplines (Walls, n.d.).” The STN has three different type of membership opportunities: RNs, Associate member non-RNs and an international membership. Again, as an ED and Trauma nurse and nurse educator over these areas the Journal of Trauma Nursing that STN publishes is excellent as well as the conference opportunities.

They also offer an online community and mentorship match. Last of the three professional organizations I am interested in is the American Association of Critical-Care (AACN). The AACN is dedicated to “creating a healthcare system driven by the needs of patients and families where acute and critical care nurses make their optimal contribution (aacn.org, n.d.).”
The AACN has active memberships for RNs, affiliate memberships for students or LVNs, Emeritus membership, international membership and student membership. Their webinar series are excellent, CEUs and online publications are easy to access, and have scholarships available. As critical care is a large part of Emergency and Trauma nursing therefore, I am interested in the AACN organization.

I like your post. The Society of Trauma Nurses or STN advocates for the highest level of quality trauma care across the continuum. It accomplishes this through an environment that fosters visionary leadership, mentoring, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the delivery of trauma care. It will become the premiere nursing organization in the world for advancing the nursing care of injured patients.
In addition, its values includes, a collaborative effort, education, innovation, leadership, mentoring, and prevention. Its vision which is as an image or a concept, a prophecy, or a revelation. With STN, the vision to be the premiere organization for nursing in the care of the injured patient has become a realization. Its accomplishments are many and growing.
STN has gained strong relationships with other leading trauma organizations: The American College of Surgeons–Committee on Trauma, the American Trauma Society, the Trauma Center Association of America, and many more in the works.
Injury prevention, membership opportunities, educational forums, and mentorship options were highlighted in the journal’s last edition and details are also available on the online on its Web site. The STN trauma ListServ 1 encompasses the mission of the STN which provides education, injury prevention, and leadership opportunities, and is the best forum for collaboration for trauma professionals.

The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) is a national professional organization of more than 11,000 nurse leaders that represent the voice of nursing leadership in health care. These nursing leaders encompass nurse leaders working in hospitals, health systems, academia, and other care settings across the care continuum.
The organization has led the field of nursing leadership through professional development, advocacy, and research that advances nursing leadership practice and patient care (American Organization of Nursing Leaders, 2022).
This organization represents the best of nursing leadership providing insight into areas of advocacy to further the careers of nursing by supporting nursing programs and encouraging the growth of nurses as members of the healthcare team and encouraging the support of the staff providing care.
Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) within the state of Massachusetts, offers many leadership classes to act to expand the knowledge and skill set of advanced practice nurses. Some of the classes that have been offered were (ONL; Organization of Nurse Leaders, n.d.):
1. Diversity in management and leadership
2. Leading Evidence-Based Practice
3. 8 Attributes of a Healthy Work Culture
I was fortunate enough to attend the first class on diversity which provided a large amount of education and open my eyes to many everyday common remarks and statements that could possibly be offensive. This class allowed me to look around the unit to see what areas would need improvement to become more inclusive.
The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, AMSN, provides support and certification for nurses that are employed in the Med/Surg field. This organization promotes research studies and promotes advocacy that condemns violence in the workplace (Academy of Medial-Surgical Nurses, n.d.). After working within the Med/Surg areas for the past twenty years, it is a pleasant surprise to learn that there was a group solely for this area. Med/Surg nurses feed the pipeline of the specialties.
These organizations support my worldview of leadership due to the importance of education. We as leaders are only as good as the team we mentor.

I am thankful that God gave me the courage to pursue advanced education through this MSN program. I have lost all interest in going back to school, but the current economy and political climate in the entire nation and the world made me realize that I can contribute to the growth and development of nursing by investing in myself through education.
I was so nervous when I started this MSN program because I was working full-time, and time management was a big challenge. I almost dropped this class because I was running behind with my commitment in my life, doing my assignments and readings for this course. I am thankful to our professor and to all of you for engaging me as I read all your works and views as a student and as a nurse.
I was not thinking of my worldviews before, but this class made me organize my thoughts and put into writing my worldviews. I have become conscious of EBP in nursing and its application in the workplace. I became a better critical care nurse because of my level of engagement in this class and the learnings I have acquired throughout this course. APA doesn’t make sense to me before, but now I have become more knowledgeable in learning it for this course.
Lastly is learning about research. We are all in the early stage of doing nursing research, but this is very useful in our future as advanced practice nurses. Lastly, if you ask me if I have met my expectations in this course? Absolutely. Thank you
Reflecting back on this first course, I have learned many things. I manage my time better overall. I was very concerned about going back to school while working full time, but I have made the adjustment well. The weekly schedule of the class fits well with my work schedule. I have met my goals for this course which included learning to navigate the learning portal and mastering APA format, as well as applying what I have learned to my current nursing role and future roles.
As the class progressed, I continued to learn more tricks to the portal, available resources, and APA formatting as I utilized different kinds of sources. My next steps are to apply what I have learned to my future classes and continue to learn how to write better papers. Some material that sticks out in my mind that I have learned includes learning more about all of the different advanced practice roles, nursing theories, and most recently professional nursing organizations.
Personal Worldview, Personal Philosophy of Practice & Patient Care
My worldview focuses on my foundation and how I perceive the world and the essence of nursing practice. Accordingly, my religious beliefs have a strong influence on my worldview and personal philosophy of nursing as well as patient care. I am a Filipino registered nurse (RN) with Catholic as my religion. Currently, I work in a Jewish hospital located in a diverse Los Angeles area, California.
The setting and my background have a critical influence on my worldview. I am a Christian and believe that God is the source of life and created everyone with a purpose. According to my Catholic faith, God calls on us to be co-creators and show love to all people, irrespective of their diversity.
I believe that the only language which transcends differences among people is love. God created human beings in his image based on the concept of “Imago Dei” and as a nurse, I serve him through caring for others (Newbanks et al., 2018). Working in a diverse setting and interacting with patients from different backgrounds means that I should embrace their status, irrespective of their weaknesses, and should not make biased judgments or conclusions.
My nursing philosophy is that nursing is a calling and nurses should offer holistic care to their patients. My religious beliefs support my nursing philosophy as all types of living are vocations. Nurses serve, just like parents in a family, who are called by God to care for their children.
As a calling, nurses should sacrifice their time and knowledge and work beyond formal expectations to deliver holistic care to patients. Nurses spend more time with patients than any other healthcare provider and practitioner. Through this, they develop trusting and strong relationships with their patients. Therefore, they interact more and share a lot making it possible to navigate their care and attain quality outcomes.
My worldview influences my attitude towards patient care as it emphasizes treating each unique patient with dignity, respect, and above all show love because God created all people in his image. Further, it means that I should provide holistic care to patients and interact with them in a friendly way to improve quality care outcomes (O’Brien, 2018). My worldview also demonstrates that healthcare providers should leverage cultural competencies to help their patients attain better outcomes.
