Description:
Describe the steps of the evidence-based research process and the importance of using them. In the initial stages of an EBP project, where do nurses in your specialty go to locate sources of information that help them to determine whether or not a practice problem is appropriate for an evidence-based practice change proposal. Include two specific sources on information in your discussion.
Re: Topic 7 DQ 1
The first step in the Evidence Based Practice (EBP) process is identifying a clinical problem or question. Sounds easy enough, but this problem or questions must be something that is answerable. The PICOT method is very useful in providing guidance in the development of a research questions (DeNisco & Barker, 2016).
The “P” refers to the target population, “I” is the intervention or variable that one is interested in studying, “C” is a comparison of with and without said intervention of variable, “O” is the outcome, and “T” refers to the time it takes to reach an outcome.

The next step in EBP is research. After forming a PICOT, you want to search for all existing and current evidence related to your topic. There are steps related to research as well. You must have inclusion and exclusion criteria; this is often related to age of study. You must select appropriate databases to search, and you must critically analyze the evidence types.
Not all evidence is created equally, there is a major difference between evidence from a systemic review or meta-analysis with randomized trials versus observational descriptive or qualitative studies. According to DeNisco and Barker, the AACN has created a new evidence leveling system that essentially grades the evidence (2016, p. 476).
Critically analyzing the newfound evidence is important to determine if the research is valid, of quality and applicable to your EBP. There are a number of models, checklist, and grading systems available to help with the critical analysis and organization of evidence (DeNisco & Barker, 2016).
There are a number of databases that can be used to research, the GCU nursing library page lists several nursing databases that are great for the initial stages of EBP and research (GCU Library, n.d.). To name a few: CINAHL Complete is a good data based to start because it has quite a few specialties and is very nursing specific.
PubMed is another one that has a gigantic database and is free to use. And COCHRAN library is a good one because it has seven different databases that related to providing medical providers with high-quality and independent evidence that can help with decision making in care.

After collecting new evidence, critically appraising it, one must then determine if the new evidence is strong enough to support an intervention or change in practice; or if more evidence is needed and more research must be conducted. If an intervention or implementation is made, they must be measurable, and one must be able to evaluate the effectiveness of said interventions.
DeNisco & Barker said “Evaluating practice and changes in practice is essential to the successful implementation of any quality improvement or evidence-based practice initiative. Evaluation is an ongoing process that must start early in a project and be continual” (2016, p. 522).
These outcomes can then be compared to national benchmarks; benchmarking is essentially like continuously comparing your outcomes to the industry’s “gold standard” or the best of the best. Benchmarking is a way to make sure that current practices are staying relevant with practices of other organizations or competitors.

ORDER NOW FOR AN ORIGINAL PAPER ASSIGNMENT ON Discuss the importance of evidence-based practice within advanced registered nursing practice.
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly.
Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CLASS
Discussion Questions (DQ)
Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, include a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words.
Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source.
One or two sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words.
I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.
Weekly Participation
Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately.
In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies.
Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work).
Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week.
APA Format and Writing Quality
Familiarize yourself with APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required).
Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation.
I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.
Use of Direct Quotes
I discourage overutilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Masters’ level and deduct points accordingly.
As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources.
Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content.
It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
LopesWrite Policy
For assignments that need to be submitted to LopesWrite, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me.
Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed.
Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes. Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own?
Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in LoudCloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.
Late Policy
The university’s policy on late assignments is 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies.
Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice.
We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances. If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect.
I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension. As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading.
Communication
Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me:
Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well.
This is a public forum for the class.
Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.
Throughout this class, we have looked at many concepts that will impact your role as an advanced registered nurse.  In coordination with these core ideas, I wanted to look at the impact of how Christian values can impact your roles. This is not a required activity, but your substantive responses will count toward your participation grade.
In John 8:12 it says: “Then spake Jesus again unto them saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
I like this verse for several reasons, but for our purposes in this discussion, I want to focus on the section where Jesus asks us to follow Him and how that brings us light. I believe that Jesus Christ gives us an excellent example to follow in all things.
What are some ways you can follow Jesus’s example in your current and future nursing roles?
Jesus is known in the Bible for his love and compassion for all humanity. Throughout his young life Jesus showed his love and commitment for others by blessing and serving the poor, the sick and distressed, he also sat, listened, prayed, break bread, and healed the sick and afflicted from many life-threatening and uncurable diseases.
Most importantly Jesus taught his followers to love and respect one another I can continue to follow Jesus’s example in my current and future practice firstly by listening to my patient’s chief medical complaint and their immediate needs just by listening I can show empathy,
commitment and consideration and gather enough pertinent information to plan for their nursing care while in the hospital.Furthermore, I can teach my patients of selfcare both physically and psychologically and instill hope through prayers.
Nursing practice is an act of service to others. It involves serving with the heart of Christ. According to Jones and Bartlett Learning (n.d), Christian nurses view their role as a ministry. Jesus is an example to all nurses, as portrayed in John 8:12.
In my current nursing role, following Jesus’ example is crucial for optimal outcomes. The verse indicates the need to abide by Biblical teachings and expectations.
Jesus demonstrates kindness, humility, love, and compassion. These critical traits would ensure that my patients receive the best services and adhere to medication. Joy is also another crucial trait that I can leverage in practice.
The nursing field is often characterized by intense pressure and anxiety. However, joyfully understanding what is vital in practice would lessen unnecessary stress negatively affecting patient care.
Following Jesus’ teachings in my future career as a clinical nurse leader would also be crucial. Jahandar et al. (2017) state that spiritual nurse leadership can revolutionize a work environment. Sustainable leadership models meant to guide followers and support every party’s satisfaction are mandatory.
Jesus demonstrated great leadership skills in training and working with his disciples. Thus, with the same approach, it is likely that I will enhance nurse retention, patient satisfaction, nurse commitment, and create healthy work environments (Jahandar et al., 2017).
Wisdom is another key example evidenced in Jesus’ work and journey. As a nurse leader, I will ensure that my decision-making and advocacy portray wisdom by benefiting all key healthcare stakeholders. Besides, I will promote hope and faith among all staff members to ensure all nursing goals are achieved.
Leaders encourage faith in high power, that is, in their practice. Spiritual leadership contributes to increased performance and satisfaction.

Being a nurse is like serving Christ, I will serve the people as much as I can. In John 12:16 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me”.
I have been a follower and a believer in Christ and live my life through his teachings. In my current role, I have been blessed to be able to call myself a Registered Nurse who helps the vulnerable.
Jesus heals the sick, and people with various diseases as he lays down his hands on them, they were healed. Nurses do not have that kind of power but we are the instrument of Jesus. Every time I come to work, I always pray that Jesus will touch my hands and be my guide so that when I take care of the sick, he will be there to comfort them.

Topic 7 DQ 1: Evidence-Based Research Process
Nurses apply numerous strategies to optimize patient outcomes. Besides regular encounters with patients, nurses are encouraged to adopt evidence-based practice (EBP) to improve individual research skills and patient outcomes.
From a practice perspective, EBP entails combining clinical expertise with current evidence and patient perspectives to improve patient care (Li et al., 2019). Accordingly, an EBP approach requires nurses to apply relevant, current scientific sources to explore practice problems and appropriate solutions.
Nurses should understand the evidence-based research process and the importance of each step to apply it effectively in practice. Typically, the EBP process starts with asking a clinical question demonstrating the need for more information. The clinical question is formulated into an answerable question primarily through the PICOT (problem, intervention, comparison, outcome, and time) approach.
The next step involves finding evidence to answer the question. Relevant evidence is sourced from peer-reviewed sources of high-level evidence, such as randomized controlled trials (Hariton & Locascio, 2018). The evidence is then critically appraised before its integration into practice. Appraising evidence ensures it is valid and applicable in clinical practice (Nguyen et al., 2021).
The last step is to evaluate the outcomes to determine the effectiveness of practice change and whether further improvements are needed. It is important to use these steps to ensure that practice change is procedural and that the evidence used to guide it is valid and relevant to clinical practice.
In the initial stages of an EBP project, acute care nurse practitioners locate information sources for evaluating practice problems for an EBP change proposal from the Grand Canyon University’s library and nursing databases.
The university library provides access to numerous evidence-based sources exploring numerous clinical problems and how they were addressed in the past.
Nursing databases provide current and past peer-reviewed journal articles with an in-depth exploration of practice problems. Useful and widely applied sources include CINAHL Plus and The Cochrane Library.
CINAHL Plus covers numerous nursing topics and provides access to relevant articles. The Cochrane Library provides sources with current information on the impacts of health interventions in patient care.
