Effective communication is essential for nurses and other health professionals as they interact with patients and colleagues as well as other stakeholders in care provision. The evolution of communication, especially messaging, means that people are integrating different aspects to demonstrate tone. Tone is as important in writing just like in speech or speaking (Tuohy, 2019). The choice of one’s words, punctuations and other components like use of abbreviations and even emojis all create certain tones from the speaker or conveyor of the message. For instance, the use of different punctuation marks in a text message can convey diverse tones (Sibiya, 2018). For example, “Thank a lot!” and “Thank you?” demonstrate different tones. In the first instance, “Thank you a lot!” shows the warmth and positive response, albeit from a surprised perspective. “Thank you a lot!” is also more informal and idiomatic implying that it expresses a sociable approach and appreciation from an individual. The tone here is more informal but sociable and affirming to the individual getting it. ‘
Conversely, “Thank you” is more formal, expressive as well as assertive as it confirms that one has tremendous acknowledgement based on what the situation. Here, the one is sincere, compassion and with self-confidence and is not feigned. However, in the former, the tone is about attention and enthusiasm for the help received or the favor done.
Conveying different tones to audiences happens based on the type of words and phrases that one uses. Tone is an essential component of effective communication. For instance, the phrase “come here” can have different meanings based on the tone used. For example, “come here,” is a command but with persuasion and warmth. However, “come here!” is an order that must be respected and the tone is more commanding (Zlevor, 2018). The use of such phrase can have diverse meanings to audiences based on the tone deployed.

I feel as if tones in any form of text it means a lot. One that I see a lot that makes me think different is okay.

With those different okays i feel as if they say a lot by the way they are written out. If I got back just an Ok or okay… I would feel as if whom ever was the other party didn’t really care about what I was saying. And it was just a quick response. With Okay! It’s showing more excitement and like they are ready for whatever the message was about. Okay? Makes me feel has if the other party is confused why they are even saying oKay or even has if they may be giving attuitde. So tone in any type of text Is very important because if you are using a period and you meant to use an exliment point then it will set the tone off.
Another explain were tone is important is with Thank you. And thank you! Thank you! You are excited and can’t wait for what is happening. As with Thank you. You are just in rush to make a comment about it and you don’t care as if they even said anything.

Tone is processed differently by everyone in my opinion. Not everyone reads a text the same way for example, in my work group chat there are people that end every sentence with “…” and it drives me crazy! It feels exaggerated almost like they’re annoyed that they’re even replying. For me punctuation is a big way to express your desired tone. I decided to choose ,“Thanks.” and “Thanks!” to me they’re two completely different ways to express the word to someone. For example if I were to receive “Thanks.” I would expect a serious tone. Depending on the context prior to the response maybe this could come across rude or just a professional way towards someone. Maybe I annoyed the person and want to be short with me. Maybe I’m just being short to keep the message short and not come off a little extra. Everyone’s different and react to things differently, that’s just me. If I were to receive the response “Thanks!” I would expect the tone to be more excited. Regardless of the context I would process it to be more kind than it ending with a period. Same with like a question mark, normally people would think the individual is confused because that’s what the question mark is suppose to do. Punctuation to me is key for tone.
The two examples to me that are different then each others,are “Thank you?”and “Ty’. The first tone Thank you? seems like it’s waiting on a response or more whatsoever asking a question. The interpreter might take the word Thank you ? as if he or she has to say you are welcome. The word ty let’s the audience know that they didn’t even take the time out to write the whole word out.
There are many words that sets different tones. The words that steps out to me are bye or goodbye. When writing out goodbye the interpreter can assume that you are expressing good wishes, while bye indicates farewell or so long
